At the age of 15 she headed a field brigade. Encouraged by the example of the Donetsk tractor driver Pasha Angelina, who organized the first female tractor brigade in the USSR, graduated from tractor drivers at the MTS Rybnovskaya machine-tractor station in the year.

In the year, without interruption from work, she graduated from the Sapozhkovsky school of mechanics. In the year, she received the Shchelkunov brigade, appointed by the senior mechanic of MTS. In the year, she was awarded the Stalin Prize of the 3rd degree for the radical improvement of the methods of operation of wheeled tractors, which ensured a five-fold increase in the seasonal norm of tractors with a high saving fuel and with high quality work. In the year, D. Garmash was appointed as director of the Rybnovskaya MTS, who at that time took the place in the tractors repair competition.

In a short time, she managed to strengthen labor discipline and raise labor productivity, as a result of which already in February of the next year MTS switched to 3rd place. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 8, for outstanding successes achieved in the development of agricultural production and the fulfillment of a five -year plan for the sale of agriculture and livestock products to the state, Garmash Daria Matveevna was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Alews of the Serp and the Hammer.
