Biography of Tolstikova Catherine

UA Lena Lisun talked with a Food-therapist and a nutritionist with 8 years of experience, and found out how to distinguish a competent nutrition expert, how knowledge of biochemistry helps to improve health and how food can be treated from diseases of 19 leaf fall, how long have you been engaged in food therapy and dietetology? I have been doing medicine for 12 years, food therapy and dietetology-eight.

Before seriously engaged in food, I studied this area from different sides: I worked at the Department of Histology and Surgery, in a pharmacy. By education, I am a pediatrician: from the very beginning of the work, I used knowledge about nutrition and treated children with food. It was then that I realized: surgery is the final stage that is necessary in acute situations, but it is proper nutrition that prevents the development of diseases.

Did you have teachers along this way or did you master this topic yourself? On my way, each person was a teacher. When I studied at the university, people with different forms of diseases and symptoms who went from one doctor to another have been contacting me with different forms of diseases and symptoms. They had diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, hormonal system, diabetes mellitus, which I helped to get rid of my knowledge of biochemistry and analysis of the body at the molecular level.

Then I realized: if traditional medicine and medicines do not help, then the problems are much more serious. Today I study daily: I improve and honing my knowledge of biochemistry, I repeat those that I once received. Continuously applying knowledge - nothing is forgotten. I try to make all the knowledge are necessary and important for each patient. The most important role in my formation was played by self -education and thirst for new knowledge.

Is there a place for experiments on oneself or are your knowledge based only on scientific research? For 10 years, there have been a lot of experiments on himself. I wanted to understand how everything that I read about work in practice. There were a lot of extremes: raw food diet, veganism, and fruit, and interval starvation, and ketodite. Every year, a new type of nutrition appears, and I want to check it: it will be easier for me to explain why other people should not do it.

It is important to add that each of my experiment is based on the knowledge of anatomy and biochemistry. Of course, the body is tired of experiments. I don't think I will continue. But I am very glad that I confirmed my knowledge in practice and now I help other people apply it in my life. Tell us about myths related to the work of a nutritionist. There are a lot of myths, especially when we are talking about restrictions, or extremes.

I call the extremes such beliefs: you can’t drink food with water, you need to eat fruits an hour and a half before or two hours after eating, you can not drink more than one cup of coffee, the body does not work without liquid soups and so on. Now is a very progressive time, and people should think about what they put in their mouths. Food is a basic need without which a person cannot function normally, think, work and look healthy.

Therefore, it is necessary to come to a nutrition, so as not to get diseases, for prevention, as well as the balance of food behavior and testing the body. And only then, in order to get bonuses that usually want to get immediately: reduce, gain or maintain weight if there is a need for this. By the way, the most popular request with which they come to a nutritionist is a desire to lose weight.

How to understand that I chose a competent nutritionist? By what signs can it be distinguished? First of all, you need to understand that you have chosen a competent doctor. A competent nutritionist will not tell you about tablets, miraculous diets, but will explain in simple words: what, how much and how you need to eat this or that task, achieve a specific goal. If the nutritionist “flows” additives, powders to you, be sure to specify how they will affect your body.

Of course, I also prescribe supplements, but I do this in the case when the patient left me with a huge list of tests, handed them over, and I see shortages that do not “close” due to food. But at the same time, food can support these levels when the body replenishes them with additives. Now there are a lot of scammers - that’s why it is so important to figure out if what the nutrition specialist recommends, to take specifically to you.

After the first visit, I advise you not to be lazy and google and check the doctor’s appointments on scientific and medical sites that have evidence. Then you can trust him. What prompted you to establish your own dietetics school? In fact, the school is called not dietetics, but health. At some point, I realized that each consultation with the patient is turning into a mini-lecture 1 with a length of 1, as a result of which he leaves with a colossal volume of information, cannot decompose anything on the shelves, and uses the minimum of the information that he remembered.

First, once a month I gave lectures, recruiting small groups of a person to pay attention to each student. This deprived of the opportunity to study people from other cities and countries.

Biography of Tolstikova Catherine

So I decided that training should take place online. We consider not only aspects of nutrition, but also how the body works, how it is influenced by such concepts as sleep, activity, additives, how hormones work and so on. Your school is not only about food. You also teach stress to fight. Tell us about all directions. The main goal of the school is to understand how to be healthy and extend the state of youth for as long as possible.

The purpose of the school is to make a person holistically healthy, and not to cure the liver, stomach or other organs separately. Therefore, we are considering working with stress, physical activity, selection and taking food additives, as well as nutrition. My school is for everyone, and not just those who want to become food specialists. I have completed the training more than doctors, and more than two thousand students.

The smallest student was an 8-year-old boy, and the most adult was a summer woman. How has your body, skin and hair have changed since you entered the path of dietetics? My body changes due to the fact that I am very strictly experimenting with it. It happens that I and my body cannot get out of stress, and this is reflected in appearance, and on my hair, and on hormones.

Now I am no longer doing this. I always say to patients: problem skin, dull hair, menstrual cycle disorders never happen just like that. All the main work must be done with its plate. The best health control tool is fork. Learn to masterfully use it, apply knowledge in practice to everyone. There would be a desire. How often do you update and review knowledge?

How do you check the conflicting information? I try to update knowledge daily. However, the information that students receive at my school is a base that has never changed almost never. If you soberly assess the situation, everything is already open. Just some knowledge is confirmed, while others are refuted. You need to be able to read and compare them correctly. Usually I complement the information if I understand that this or that part needs to be added to existing ones.

Of course, I am reviewing the notes and I study with students every day. Sometimes I hear issues that did not occur to me, and I am very interested in dealing with them, find the answer. Some school students go through training levels several times, because curators in chats change, and in each stream the information will still be slightly different-each person thinks differently.

And it's very cool. Do you recommend an individual food strategy for each patient or is it usually universal? In working with the patient, the first thing I am studying in detail I study analyzes in detail, listen to an anamnesis and complaints, and study his plate. After that, together with him, I make a decision and develop a strategy. There are patients who need to understand exactly how many proteins, fats and carbohydrates they eat, and where to get them from.

But in general, it is like a scheme, because the problems are often repeated: a person chooses for breakfast inappropriate food, or completely misses it, drinks alcohol or sweet soda. Eliminating these factors, the situation is already becoming much better. This is a miracle. But in order to change the lifestyle, you need the right approach to each person. For example, he can hear and know this information, but do nothing with it.

I try to make sure that every patient and every student at the school after graduating from consultation or learning change his life, if not at least 90 degrees.
