Biography of Averkiev Dmitry
Dmitry Vasilievich Averkiev was born in Yekaterinodar in a merchant family. He studied in St. Petersburg, first at a commercial school, then at the University Natural Department. A large role in his fate as a writer was played by the proximity with AP. An important stage of his creative life was the work in the magazine of Dostoevsky “era”, where he was one of the most active employees, see M.
magazine, subsequently starting, following the example of F. Dostoevsky to publish his “Writer’s Diary” - Averkin recalled his work in the “era”: “The late Fedor Mikhailovich was ... the first of the writers of the preceding generation, who recognized me not only literary Abilities, but - Horrista Dictu is scary to say. Dostoevsky, indeed, had hopes for his literary talent and especially highly appreciated the comedy of Frol Skabeev.
See see from Dostoevsky’s review. However, even during the period of cooperation in the “era”, Averkiev’s conservatism was more “orthodox” than the position of AP. Grigoriev and Dostoevsky-Ideologist. Averkiev did not have the same, in essence, the rebellious beginning, which often broke through in Dostoevsky’s utopian constructions and made it, like Grigoryev, very far from official ideology.
These orthodox trends in the worldview of Averkiev gradually intensified, especially in his journalism. In dramaturgy, however, they were significantly neutralized by the general realistic position of the writer. Affirming in their aesthetic views under the influence of AP. Grigoriev, the first task of art, Averkiev considered a truthful and complete, multilateral reflection of life, and in his writing practice strove for such multilaterality.
No wonder in his historical dramas there is no idealization of antiquity in the sense of concealing the dark and tragic sides of the patriarchal life - a similar tendential selection of facts would contradict his theoretical position, in which he was very consistent. In general, the dramaturgy, in which a direct, direct author’s judgment on life does not find a place precisely because of the characteristics of this literary family itself, turned out to be more free from conservative socio-political ideas that developed Averkin in its journalistic and partly in fiction works.
In years, Averkiev published in the “Russian Herald” a series of articles on the theory of drama, later published in the form of a separate theoretical treatise. In the years, together with Ostrovsky and Potekhin, he works in a commission to draw up a draft Regulation on the management of imperial theaters. Throughout his life, Averkiev actively acted as a theater critic-receptionist, and in this area of our culture he owns a noticeable place.
In this role, Averkiev consistently defended the realistic direction on the stage and was distinguished by increased exactingness: therefore, therefore his relationship as a playwright with theaters did not develop too well. Despite the audience success of his best dramas, he was not loved by theatrical authorities and a significant part of the actors. Detailed biography.
