Born in the Saratov province and was the youngest, fourth child in the family. His grandfather was a serf peasant. From childhood, Ivan was fond of theater and performed in amateur performances. After graduating from the male gymnasium in Penza, he entered the law faculty of Moscow University, but, having studied there two courses, went to the actors.

In the year, Ivan Mozzhukhin began acting in Khanzhonkov’s films and quickly succeeded, becoming the greatest star of Russian silent cinema. He could easily change the role and masterfully performed both tragic and comic roles, could play heroes-lover and grotesque characters.

The first film of Mozhukhina-actor was the Kreutserov Sonata, released by Khanzhonkov studio in the year. This film became the standard of Russian silent cinema, and Ivan himself was compared with Charlie Chaplin. I remembered Ivan Mozzhukhin not only with an expressive appearance, but also with tears. After 7 years, he was invited to work under a five -year contract in Hollywood. Under the pressure of the producer, he changed his name to John Moskin and performed plastic surgery, but in Hollywood they had already begun to shoot sound films, and the actor’s strongest emphasis closed his road there.

Kozhukhin was forced to return to Europe, where the shooting resumed and there was even success, but there was no more former glory. The story of Hollywood broke the health of the actor.
